Micro Racers

'Race against opponents in the sewer (you can’t say I don’t take you to salubrious places).'

I’m a bit of a motor racing fan (though I admit it’s not the greenest of sports, though it is getting better). If you don’t fancy racing for real, why not try it online, where you can race a skateboard to a spaceship! By Suzanne Elvidge

All games are free downloads or free to view online, and need the minimum of equipment. Some games require your browser to have a 'plug in' for Shockwave, Flash or Java.

To play a game, simply click on its name. If you are a parent, we advise you to try the game and the site it's on first before letting your kids play them, to make sure you're happy. Don't forget, you can also find great games for kids at Christian Aid's Global Gang website

When downloading games from the Internet, don't forget to keep your anti-virus and anti-spyware software up to date.

Ace Racer
Your aim is to take home the cup. Race your jet ski ('personal water craft’), jumping over buoys, performing tricks and avoiding sea creatures (right/left to move, up to jump, down (on or just after a ramp) to perform a trick.

Two thoughts – it seems to rain a lot, and I thought dolphins were nice…

Supersonic RC
When I was a kid, Lego was just a collection of little red bricks that you built houses with (and your Dad stood on with bare feet).

In this game, the goal is initially to make two complete laps of the circuit within the time limit with your remote controlled car.

Further on, you get points for aerobatic stunts. Use left and right arrows to steer, up to accelerate and down to brake or reverse, and the space bar to brake hard. There are more games on the Lego website.

Rural Racer
In this one or two player game, you have to race around a countryside track.

Use the arrow keys to steer, and hold down the shift key for the turbo (but when it runs out, you have to wait for it to refill).

Once I got the hang of the steering, it was quite fun, but I did spend a lot of time stuck at the side of the track!

The Paper Cup
You race across the Paper Islands cosmos to gain the coveted Paper Cup.

Pick a racer and move your mouse to move him or her up and down – moving it left and right will slow you or speed you up. Avoid bumping into things, because they slow you down. Sweet and whimsical.

Dune Bashing in Dubai
Sadly instruction-free, but if you can work out how it works, enjoy the motocross.

Micro Racers
Select your track and your car, and then get racing. Up to accelerate, down to brake, left and right to steer, and space to boost.

Sewer Run
Race against opponents in the sewer (you can’t say I don’t take you to salubrious places) on your skateboard. Steer using the arrow keys, Z and an arrow key to grab and then an arrow key to release, and X and an arrow key to perform a trick.

R resets you back on course. And then it all gets complicated with weapons, boosts, videos and photos. Oh, and you can pick your character and your course. It’s a demo, so I’m not sure how far on you can go, but it’s pretty cool.

Barnyard Jersey Joyride
Collect all your five of your farm friends with a stolen Cadillac and get back to barnyard to party before the time runs out and the farmer comes back.

Follow the orange arrow on the screen and use your arrow keys – up to go forward, left and right to steer, down to stop or reverse. Jump ramps to get extra time.

Bizarrely enough the cow that talks about milking and the chicken that talks about egg-laying both have male voices…

Running with the Bulls
A far more humane way to run with the bulls. Avoid both the bulls and your opponents. Click jugar and then comenzar to start the game, and control your runner using the arrow keys. Warning – you may see game characters squished…

Star Racer
Choose your spaceship and your planet, and then get racing. Use your arrow keys – up to go forward, left and right to steer, down to stop. It’s as simple as that.
