Get Groovy

Free the Balloon

'Completely pointless and time-wasting way of playing on-line.'

Strategy. The link between vision and action. How do you get there? Well enough of the management speak. Practice your strategic thinking with some of this lot. Then shoot a few bubbles, collect a few fish and roll a few balls. Steve Tilley with a mixed bag this month.

Some games require your browser to have a 'plug in' for Shockwave. You can download this for free here here

If you are a parent, we advise you to try the game and the site it's on first before letting your kids play them, to make sure you're happy. (And, don't forget, you can also find great games for kids in our own Global Gang area).

To play a game, simply click on its name.

Blob Wars
A member of the Othello-ish tendency. Play against the computer to turn the red blobs blue by standing next to them. Jumping or breeding also involved.

Fishball
You have a diving balloon. You collect fish and take them back to the surface, avoiding the puffer fish the while. Elegant movement by nudging the diving balloon in the right direction with the mouse.

Free the Balloon
The balloon is trapped and only a sequence of actions (in the correct order) will enable it to be freed. Look, think then go for trial and error like I did.

Gyrobball
Use the cursor keys to direct a black ball down a series of ramps. Go off the side and discover your ball was made of china not leather. Smashing. Start over

Jenga
Completely pointless and time-wasting way of playing on-line, solo Jenga. Just because it wobbles it doesn’t mean it will fall next turn.

Pacman
Always wary of outrageous claims in the games world so how about, ‘Is this the world’s smallest Pacman game?’ You’ll need good eyes to see it and operate those cursor keys.

Panda Run
Orisimal have an endangered species running through the woods trying not to charge into rocks and birds. Keep its energy up with power leaps into lanterns and mushrooms. If only London Zoo knew that trick.

Proximity
Use differently valued tiles to either take an opponent or bolster your defences. The winner (you versus the computer) is the one with the most armies after all have been placed.

Speedy Bubbles
Fire bubbles at bubbles to make them burst. Ignore the persistent pop-up trying to sell you the full version of the game and turn off the music.

Waca Waca
It’s Dutch Pacman. All the ancient fun.
