Game

Hungry Spiders

'Prepare for an outbreak of crazy clicking as you rush to rescue animals two by two before the rain waters rise and the whole flood thing happens again.'

Where would games designers be without little critters to order around? Here’s some new favourites. Cruelty to cats not included (but trust me, it’s out there if you want to find it).

Some games require your browser to have a 'plug in' for Shockwave. You can download this for free here here

If you are a parent, we advise you to try the game and the site it's on first before letting your kids play them, to make sure you're happy. (And, don't forget, you can also find great games for kids in our own Global Gang area).

Introducing pimpernel.com this month. You need to invent a sign-in name and password but they don’t require your e-mail address, real name or any other info.

Ant Farm
It’s a bit like herding ants. You think so? Try it. I’m hooked. It’s displaced Alchemy as my current addiction. For your benefit readers I played this non-stop for almost a fortnight trying to register a score. Eventually got 2 (high score is shown as 200+). Now seeing ants even when I close my eyes. Help.

Ant War
You run an ant colony. Balance the workers, fighters, foragers and nurses. Move your ant hill to the best environment (including the possibility of moving in with Mr Suburbia and eating all his food). Find gems, then shop at the ant mall for cool stuff.

Bug on a Wire
Use the arrow keys to move your bug from one wire to the next to avoid being eaten by crows, or jump over them if you can.

Castlemouse 2000
On a chess-board like grid you strategically place animal tokens. Click on ‘go’ and various animals are programmed to run away from each other. Your aim is for the cat to chase the mouse into the hole. First few levels very insulting to intelligence but after a bit you’ll have to work out how to get the elephant to chase the lion to chase the man to chase the dog to chase the cat to chase the mouse into the hole. No ants involved. The ‘puzzle of the day’ can be crazily difficult.

Hungry Spiders
Spiders are making their way towards your cake. Zap them to stop them. Recruit the ladybird to help you. One of Orisimal’s less restful games.

Noah’s Ark
Prepare for an outbreak of crazy clicking as you rush to rescue animals two by two before the rain waters rise and the whole flood thing happens again.

Pelpet
Manoeuvre your, not so much an animal more a, yellow blob down a ladder, avoiding the deadly green blob and working out what the hammers are for. Turn the very annoying music off.

Snakefish
The eponymous snakefish swims round the tank eating little fish and trying real hard not to self-consume. Variation on a much-travelled theme.

These Little Pigs
These little pigs float on balloons and stand on top of each other to reach cakes. Birds drop time bonuses. Don’t lose too many pigs though; too many plummeting porkies and you’re finished.
